Situated in the centre of the pretty village of Reeth, capital of Swaledale, and overlooking the village green we find the perfectly situated Kings Arms Hotel. Dating back to 1734 and affectionately known as the “Middle House” because of its position, The Kings Arms has everything the travelling tourist could desire. There is an extensive menu, an olde worlde bar and dining room with an imposing log fire and, in keeping with modern day standards, comfortable en-suite guest bedrooms. Perfect!
After parking in the village square, the visiting guest is impressed by the warm and friendly welcome, an atmosphere that will persist throughout your stay. Here the Inglenook Bar and Dining Room provide a popular and convivial meeting place for locals and visitors alike and of course this atmosphere is further enhanced as the result of the large log fire burning in the inglenook fireplace.
With all the ingredients for the perfect break, Reeth, “A jewel set in heather”, is less than 15 miles from the A1 and an ideal base from which to visit the Lake District, North York Moors, the East Coast and of course the stunning nearby Georgian town of Richmond where a night at the theatre takes place in one of the smallest venues in the country! There is racing nearby at Catterick, Thirsk, Ripon and York and the energetic walkers will be drawn to both the River Swale and its many well signed walks as well as the magnificent scenery, caves and waterfalls to be experienced on the Coast to Coast path.
Whatever your chosen activity it will encourage a healthy appetite which will be satisfied as the result of the superb lunchtime and evening a la carte menus on offer at The Kings Arms Hotel. If at all possible, such is the popularity of this hotel that advance booking is advised in respect of both accommodation and meals; although being the friendly place that it is, they are very understanding of the needs of the casual caller and will endeavour to accommodate them wherever possible.
So that next short break treat is, as they say, sorted!
